The Forensic expert kollegium carries out examinations of all types of pressure vessels.
Pressure vessels (vessels, cylinders, tanks, barrels, pressure chambers) are technical devices, the operation of which makes the production facility dangerous. A large number of accidents are associated with accidents of pressure vessels; therefore, a number of restrictions are imposed on their design, manufacture, reconstruction, adjustment, installation, repair, technical diagnostics and operation in most countries of the world. The requirements for these vessels are regulated by the technical regulations of the Customs Union “On the safety of equipment operating under excess pressure”.
Based on the expert practice of the Forensic expert kollegium, the main causes of destruction of pressure vessels are:
- presence of defects in welded joints;
- violation of the installation of shut-off and control valves;
- violation of the installation of measuring instruments;
- improper manufacturing of pipelines and flange connections;
- inappropriate selection of materials for making vessels;
- violation of the rules for installation of pressure vessels;
- violation of the rules for technical examination and maintenance of vessels (defects in the vessel walls, welds and rivets were not identified, lining defects were not identified, pneumatic and hydraulic tests were not carried out, etc.);
- defects occurring after repair of pressure vessels;
- operation of a vessel with faulty safety devices against pressure build-up and pressure gauges;
- operation of the vessel when the pressure in the vessel exceeds the permitted limit;
- ingress of gases into the cylinder, forming an explosive mixture with the contents of the cylinder;
- exposure to high temperatures and open flames;
- mechanical damage;
- hydraulic shock.
If necessary, when conducting a study of the causes of destruction of pressure vessels, specialists of the Forensic expert kollegium carry out engineering strength calculations. Calculations of the strength properties of pressure vessels are carried out using licensed software - the KOMPAS 3D-V16 computer-aided design system with the APM FEM strength analysis system.
