The Forensic expert kollegium conducts expertise of all types of electrical appliances.
Based on an analysis of the expert practice of the Forensic expert kollegium, the most common defects of liquid crystal (LCD) and plasma televisions, as well as monitors of video players and television equipment are:
- inability to turn on the TV;
- after turning on, the TV goes into stable image standby mode;
- spontaneous turning off of the TV;
- improper sound or its complete absence;
- poor-quality image or its absence on the screen (very dim, periodically flickers or disappears completely, colors are distorted, areas of a lighter or darker image, etc.);
- destruction of the protective glass of the monitor or TV;
- inability to connect additional devices to the TV (video players, audio systems, gaming devices, etc.);
- inability to read information from external disk drives in formats supported by the TV;
- the TV lacks functions declared by the manufacturer or the possibility of partially using them.
The most common causes of malfunctions of liquid crystal (LCD) and plasma TVs are:
- a design defect in the form of failure to ensure the rigidity of the case elements of a monitor or TV (manufacturing defect);
- improper wall mounting of the TV, resulting in unacceptable stresses in the body elements of the TV (operational defect);
- improper operation and maintenance (mechanical damage, liquid getting inside the TV) (operational defect);
- improper repair (manufacturing defect);
- premature failure of parts directly involved in creating an image on the screen: TV signal decoders, backlight lamps, DC/AC inverters, power supplies, etc., due to inadequate quality of their manufacture (manufacturing defect);
- software failures (manufacturing defects);
- manufacturing defect in the form of damage to pixels in the matrix (manufacturing defect).
Separately, it is worth noting the large number of cases of cracks in the protective glass of TV and monitor screens. A significant number of occurrences of such damage, leading to the destruction of the screen matrix, are due to both design flaws in the design of the body elements of TVs (lack of stiffeners, insufficient thickness of the body walls, inappropriate number of screw connections, incorrect choice of metal plate configuration), and damage to the protective glass after sale to the consumer due to impact-type mechanical impact during operation or transportation, or due to poor-quality installation of the TV. When contacting the seller or a forensic institution, the consumer must be sure that when installing the TV, the alignment of the holes in the mounting plate (bracket) with the mounting holes in the wall was observed, and also that the TV was not subject to unacceptable external mechanical impact from members of consumer's family.
