The Forensic expert kollegium conducts expertise of all types of computer equipment.
The most common motherboard defects are:
- inability to start the system, lack of a characteristic sound signal indicating the functionality of the motherboard;
- turning off the system after startup, after which there is no possibility of restarting it until the system unit of the personal computer is completely disconnected from the power supply (when you try to turn it on again, the above procedure is performed);
- the inability to receive a signal to the monitor when the power is turned on, while the fans are in working order and there are no sound signals about errors;
- periodic appearance of various kinds of artifacts on the monitor screen;
- periodic freezing of the operating system;
- spontaneous shutdown of the operating system or reboot;
- inability to install the operating system (after copying files to the hard drive and the first reboot, an error message appears about the impossibility of reading the files);
- the temperature of the processor, north bridge and south bridge exceeds the maximum permissible standards;
- inability to boot the operating system due to a faulty BIOS;
- failures in the operation of peripheral devices connected to the motherboard (keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.).
In the expert practice of the Forensic expert kollegium, the most common causes of malfunction of motherboards are:
- improper manufacturing of electronic components (parts) of the motherboard (manufacturing defect);
- mechanical damage to processor socket connectors, metallization tracks, electronic components of the system board as a result of improper user actions during assembly or maintenance (cleaning) of the system unit of a personal computer;
- static electricity discharge when connecting USB devices;
- short circuit due to metal objects, food, and various liquids getting on the motherboard;
- destructive effects of viruses on the motherboard BIOS;
- BIOS failure due to user installation of unadapted software;
- BIOS failure due to power surge;
- unskilled user actions to increase processor performance;
- CMOS battery failure or discharge;
- inoperability of the processor due to a gap between the processor socket and the motherboard due to improper mechanical impact on the processor by the cooling radiator when installing the latter;
- errors in the design of electronic components of the motherboard;
- burnout of electronic components of the motherboard due to improper power supply or overheating;
- leakage of electrolyte from capacitors that provide stable power to the processor and electronic components of the motherboard;
- poorly carried out repairs in a service workshop;
- partial or complete failure of devices integrated into the motherboard (video card, sound processor, etc.).
