The Forensic expert kollegium conducts all types of examinations of glass and glass products.
The objects of examination of glass and glass products include:
- Whole glass products (tableware, bottles, vials, window and door glass, automotive glass, mirrors, optical elements)
- Fragments and shards of glass products
- Glass dust or the smallest particles found on carrier objects (clothing, footwear, tools, vehicles, in premises)
Tasks of examination of glass and glass products:
- Detection and classification of glass particles, comparison of submitted samples of glass and glass products.
Requirements for materials submitted for examination:
- In cases where the object of examination is not a whole glass product, but its particles on a carrier object, it is necessary to submit the carrier object for examination. If it is not possible for any reason to submit the carrier objects themselves, it is necessary to collect shards from them and package them. If the carrier object is clothing, particles of glass must be brushed off from each item of clothing onto clean sheets of drawing paper, and the collected particles must be placed into a separate paper wrap or plastic bag.
Typical questions addressed during the examination of glass and glass products:
- Are there glass particles on the submitted carrier object?
- Do the compared glass samples (glass particles) have a common generic (group) affiliation?
