Construction materials are divided into natural and artificial.

A feature of natural construction materials is that they are obtained from the environment (for example, wood) or from the depths of the earth (for example, stone).

Artificial construction materials are obtained either by changing the internal structure of natural materials (for example, chipboard panels by processing wood), or by manufacturing from artificial raw materials, including as a by-product of main technological processes.

Modern development of science and technology has led to the recent emergence of a huge number of diverse construction materials, and, accordingly, products made from them, the requirements for which are determined based on the type of raw materials, types and methods of its processing, features of chemical composition, macro- and microstructure, functional purpose.

In the expert practice of the Forensic expert kollegium, the following construction materials and products are most often submitted for examination:

• sawn timber;
• roofing materials;
• ceramic tiles;
• concrete blocks and parts;
• door blocks (frames) and door leaves;
• products made of metal profiles.
