The Forensic expert kollegium conducts construction and technical expertise of all types of construction services in both pre-trial and judicial proceedings.

The Forensic expert kollegium provides expertise services for the installation of window and door units, as well as for the installation of window and door openings.

The classification of window and door units, both during their manufacture and sale and in the course of this expertise, is carried out in accordance with the submitted technical documentation on the basis of the following documents:

  • STB 1108-98 Windows and balcony doors made of polyvinyl chloride profiles. Technical specifications;
  • STB 939-2013 Window units and balcony doors. General technical specifications.

The need for expertise of window and door units may arise in the following cases:

1. Poor-quality installation of the units. In this case, the following defects may occur:

  • sash deflection;
  • loose fit of the sash to the frame;
  • air leakage when the sash is closed;
  • condensation forming on the surface of the insulating glass unit;
  • ice formation on the surface of the insulating glass unit;
  • improper operation of the hardware;
  • condensation on the surface of the frame profile;
  • incomplete product configuration (absence of decorative caps, handles, sealing gaskets, as well as their damage);
  • mechanical damage to both the profile and the insulating glass unit (scratches, scoring, dents);
  • incorrect geometric dimensions of the unit.

2. Improper installation of window and door openings, resulting in the following defects:

  • deviation from horizontal and vertical alignment;
  • absence of fastening elements;
  • improper location of fastening elements;
  • improper installation of the assembly seam (inner, outer and central layers).
  • Improper installation of the window sill, resulting in the following defects:
  • unequal projection of the sill beyond the wall;
  • improper depth of embedding into the side reveals.

3. Improper construction of window reveals. In this case, the following defects may occur:

  • deviation from vertical and horizontal alignment;
  • improper construction of the junction;
  • improper construction of the frame-to-unit connection;
  • use of unsuitable materials for the reveals;
  • condensation forming at the base of the reveal;
  • mold formation at the base of the reveal.

4. Improper installation of the drip flashing, resulting in the following defects:

  • reverse slope;
  • deviation from horizontal alignment;
  • improper fastening;
  • absence of noise-damping pads;
  • absence of additional fastening supports at a specified flashing width;
  • improper projection onto the façade;
  • improper construction of the flashing-to-reveal junction.

During the expertise of window and door installation and the execution of works for filling window and door openings, the following causes of the above-mentioned defects are identified:

  • improper installation of the units;
  • failure to comply with the requirements of technical regulatory legal acts;
  • improper construction technology;
  • use of unsuitable tools;
  • insufficient qualification of personnel;
  • improper transportation and storage of the units;
  • failure to comply with the required temperature and humidity conditions during the execution of works;
  • use of unsuitable materials;
  • failure to comply with the operating and storage requirements for the units.

It should be noted that, based on the experience of the Forensic expert kollegium, most claims submitted by customers requesting expertise of window and door units arise precisely because of improper installation.

The following questions are submitted for resolution within this expertise:

  • determine the cause of the defect in the units and classify it according to significance (significant, minor, critical), repairability (repairable, irreparable), method of detection (visible, hidden), and nature (production-related «design or technological» or operational);
  • determine whether the completed installation works comply with the design documentation and regulatory technical documentation;
  • determine the quality of the completed works;
  • determine the cost of eliminating the defects.
